CRNKN drops “the Clearing” EP

CRNKN has the the third free release on the Nest HQ platform in what he is calling his “first legitimate EP”. Along with the 6 track EP, the man also known as Gabriel Baer released a concept video to outline the overall feel and idea of new EP “The Clearing”. The video is a black and white grainy artist rendering of a mans struggle to overcome fear to reach his goal, with clips of all 6 tracks playing one after the other setting the mood for the visuals. It is seemingly an artistic metaphor for whatever challenges lie between person and their ultimate goal and what it takes to achieve it.

For Gabriel it seems his goal is to challenge what people expect of him musically. In an interview with Nest he states, “With The Clearing I wanted to try and distance myself from whatever preconceived notions people had / have about the kinds of music that I make”, he goes on to say, “It’s really important to have room to experiment and grow as an artist so with this release I’m hoping to lay the groundwork for that”.

CRNKN’s shift in artistic expression musically is apparent with one of his recent remixes “Bedroom Wall” from Banks, taking on a more deep house vibe rather than his usual trap beats. His experimentation is getting some positive feedback from the fans as well. I personally enjoy hearing an artist take on new styles mixed with their own, and with CRNKN, you can you can really hear how his style is evolving scrolling through his soundcloud.

Worthy drops Hit Me EP, Nest HQ’s 2nd free release

Nest HQ is keepin it at deep house and future bass vibes with another release this time by Worthy. With a history already full of ridiculous EP releases, this producer from San Francisco is only starting to showoff his creative potential. In an  interview on the Nest HQ platform Worthy talks about his experience at Coachella, the creative process in making his Hit Me EP and his up coming album Disbehave, which is set to be released this June.

Just coming back from playing with the Dirtybird Label crew (in which he helped form with Claude VonStroke and Justin & Christian Martin in 2001) on The Do Lab stage at Coachella, Worthy is proving to be a busy man. Just releasing Hit Me he is also finishing up the long process of getting his album Disbehave together. “It is a bit experimental and chiller than what most people will expect from me”. He goes on to say, “My overall goal with the album is to give myself a platform in which to reach a broader audience and show people the range of music I can create.”

Worthy‘s Hit Me EP is Nest HQ’s 2nd free release with AC Slater debuting its first. But you cannot compare the two completely for Worthy’s sound is real unique. With what he calls “Booty Future House” this 2 track ep will definitely keep the ladies on the dance floor shakin their thangs. Just a couple of vocal samples, some deep basslines and old school break beats and Worthy has added a couple of masterpieces to his playlist. I’m excited to see what this guy has in store with for us in his upcoming album. Should be worth waiting for!

Check out & download the EP below and read the creative process in making Hit Me in full detail in the interview here.

Skrillex launches Free-Release Label with AC Slater’s Back To The Floor EP

Skrillex seems to never miss headlines this past year so far, expanding his music empire and reaching out to fans persistantly. With his recent album release “Recess”, in which he collabed with artists Diplo, Kill The Noise, Chance The Rapper, Ragga Twins, Alvin Risk, etc. and headlining Coachella and possibly Lollapalooza, Skrillex isn’t showing any signs of stopping with yet another label (aside from OWSLANest under Nest HQ.

“The concept of Nest HQ is simple really. It is a transparent vantage point into this culture that we all share and have created together” it reads on their website. “Its origins began with a global network of like-minded people who love to share their passions for music and art. Nest HQ is a window into this culture…” and it certainly is with AC Slater debuting this exclusively free-to-download label Nest with his 5-song EP “Back to the Floor”.

This whole EP will leave you in a groove you haven’t felt before, with some addictive basslines and raw synths, each song will have you like WHOA… In another state of mind. If you listen to the whole thing you’ll know what I mean. It would seem that AC has achieved his intentions stating in an interview on Nest HQ, “I want to focus more on the music and how it makes the individual feel. Everyone having their own experience and vibing out in the club rather than watching someone tell them what to do. It’s okay to zone out and get lost in the music.” That it is and with this idea behind his ep, these tracks would definitely attract a more intimate vibe on the dance floor.

It’s refreshing to see artists like AC Slater releasing tracks with their own style and originality. Bringing the crowd back to more vibin music, beats you can breathe and really dance too, inspiring a whole new crowd of music lovers to be more creative!

With all that being said! Check out the AC Slater’s Back to the floor ep below and as promised by Nest, it’s a free download.
