A modern day Hip Hop and Rap artist with an old soul is a great way to describe this Chicago talent. Probably why he does not look out of place in a speak easy for his Pale Moonlight music video. Probcause has such a good ear for smooth rhythm its as if he was born with Jazz and Soul running through his veins. So when he hears about one of his own favorite artists, Big Gigantic making a new album he picks out one of his favorite tracks to remix in honor. Pumped with horns, bass, synths and vocals by Angela McCluskey, Probcause adds his own verses to Little Things it and gives the soulful tune some more energy and attitude.
This old soul also, however, rocks with a millennial fan base too and he got all our attention workin with Griz. Spittin verses over dubstep and sub bass genres splicing in with live instruments. Cannot get too far away from that soulful sound be they turn it into a party. Nothing but good vibes and a good message coming out of Griz’s new project Good Will Prevail. My Friends and I just spreads that good word of love friend ship and good times. Spread the vibes.
One should take note from Colin Grimm, or Probcause as most refer him to. Seemingly working round the clock on different projects day to day he was just featured on Gramatik‘s latest album release Epigram. He was included in Back To The Future, which was also released in earlier months on Prob’s Drifters project through Lowtemp. Satoshi Nakamoto, named after the bitcoin creator is the second track on Epigram to be added to Colins music library.
While stacking bitcoins as an independent creative artist, Prob joined the list of talented artists to remix Louis the Child‘s track It’s Strange featuring K.Flay. Probcause of course has been perfecting music production and worked on this remix with Drew Mantia adding a hip hop beat and some verses. They then invite Kat V to top it off with her violin. K.Flay having been raised outside of Chicago and Louis the Child, Prob and Drew being from the city; this song is got some heavy mid-west influence!
Aside from his music projects Colin, if you have followed him long enough, you will come to notice has an amazing talent in visual arts. Dabbling in surreal art and videos Colin creates some real interesting pieces. Even publishing coloring book in which can fill in the colors of the creatures in Colins head and which you should totally buy. Colin also released this animation he created with Elijah Alvarado recently, getting to politics but with at twist. If you are familiar with WWE this will be even more funnier.
Like the man said himself, if he’s not making animations of Raekwon, or even working on creative art in general he is making music with him. As part of a remix EP, Probcause met up with Gramatik, Raekwon & Orlando Napier to add a verse to the lowtemp beat Native Son. Over the guitar solo and piano chords progressions Raekwon makes his presence known as Orlando keeps song connected. Prob deals his words without breaking the song flow. The quality of the track is sustained with the live music aspect.
Lowtemp artists are all gifted with the talent and motivation to play live instruments or midi controllers. Prob is no stranger to live audio as well which can possibly be one of the reasons he is welcomed in the label. Any Probcause show you attend you will see multiple collabs and live work on stage. Cofresi usually is behind the drum set and you can expect to see artists like Donnie Trumpet, Hologram Kizzie, KSRA and other Chicago Artists depending on his set. This next month in February you can catch Prob touring with Lettuce, another live act that produced a song with Chicago’s own Manic Focus, in the West Coast with more tour dates soon to be announced!
Lets take it back to the old days, Al Capone is still running Chicago, speak easy’s are thriving off bootleg alcohol and the Jazz was as smooth as that cigar you are poofin on at the bar. The women dancing the Charleston, with their bold lipstick colors and their long dress and fancy head dresses. Then you got Probcause over here stealing the show with his orchestra, Donnie Trumpet, Cofresi on the drums and KSRA serenading the crowd. Coming from his 2014 Waves EP, Prob brings this song back from the past with the new video but he is also coming with new music too.
Fellow white rapper Lil Dicky caught the Chicago locals ear, probably after Dicky got the brilliant idea of making a music video using other peoples resources. Sort of a social experiment. The two jumped on a beat together and here we have The Woods. A real chill and catchy beat that will have you munchin out at the crib next to your bong all day.
So Prob is continuing with his collaborations, so much so that you would wonder where he even gets the time to eat and sleep. Right after releasing a hit with Branx, Exmag and Adrian Lau, and producing his own track with DRO, Prob went back to the homie Drew Mantia and released Same Thing, a track for the fifth compilation album installment by AC3, a highly reputable Hip Hop Festival partnered with iHip Hop Distribution. Prob take 5 man you deserve it.
UPDATE: 11/23/15 4:45pm: Premiering on Mass Appeals Probcause unleashes a creative art music video for his track Same Thing with Drew Mantia. While this is his first video animated video with the help of Elijah Alvarado Prob is no stranger to art and drawing. Having an Art Degree at the Art Institute of Chicago, it definitely helped with a skill explored in early ages. “I grew up drawing and was always attracted to graffiti” Colin explained to Mass Appeals. “I started painting pretty young but got arrested a few too many times… It basically got to a point where I was putting my college scholarship on the line if I got arrested again, so I decided to chill out a little bit in my 20s”.
Well we are glad Prob gets to release his creative angst through a professional medium combining it with his music career! You can bet that this will not be his last animated project. Follow Probcause’s Instagram located below for more of his creative art!
ProbCause, one of the more busier artists coming out of Chicago just gets busier adding more and more projects to his resumee. ZRO FOX, a collab project with Hologram Kizzie has been one of his latest acts to work on, and performed flawlessly. This next project comes as a surprise to fans of Prob. I Feel U, a track with an excellent producer Dro, is not only an original but a collaboration with the mic handler himself as Probcause adds producer to his repertoire.
But that is not the only great news coming from the Chi Town local. Probcause made a special visit and a special announcement at a very popular event. During Electric Forest weekend Probcause has had the opportunity to perform a live song on stage with Gramatik. Not even with his track Probmatik Monster Stomp, but with a brand new track he has been working on with the New York artist. A preview of a bigger collab project. Not much info on a release date yet but keep an eye out for Probcause’s collab album with Gramatik. Without a doubt, that will be a super smooth and addictive project that we cannot wait to hit the replay button on.
Local Chicagoan Colin Grimm otherwise known as Probcause is gettin known quite quickly from fans to artists and labels. It is his unique style of rapping and the energy he brings to a stage for an audience. It is his music itself that has alot of energy on its own so it is hard not to get known, only to feeding his ego! Getting the attention by some real dope artists too.
Prob has turned the heads of the Lowtemp crew and other artists alike and the music they make together is pretty perfect. It is like perfect match in creative minds. Recently hookin up with another Chicago artist Manic Focus to make a sexy remix of Exmags track Tilt Mode with Gibbz. Prob is not unknown to Exmag either, having made a track together on his latest album Wavesand working with Lowtemp creator Gramatik on a real cool super creative beat that will make you wanna grab a beer n party till you get loud!
Speaking of collabing with dope artists Colin has started another project aside from Probcause. Linking up with Hologram Kizzie, aka Psalm One, to give you Zro Fox. Get it? Pretty cool, and they announced the collab with a serisouly dope music video for their single Might Not, as a preamble to their album to be released later.
Hologram Kizzie and Prob have been workin together for a while since 2008 from live sets at the Bottom Lounge up to Lincoln Hall in Chicago, to working on a few songs here and there on records such as the Recipe Vol. 1 & 2 covering multiple genres.Recently playing here in our very own city of Chicago in Lincoln Hall, is where they first layed down Zro Fox’s single Might Not and it was magnificent.
Watching the two flow together on the mic so flawlessly was amazing. They work very well together, them and Kat V the beautuful violinist, Cofresi and other artists that Prob likes to collab with frequently and bring up on stage. Manic Focus is also known to work with a violinist, Colin n JmaC share some similar interests! Colin definitely knows how to spot and pick a good artist that would be compatible to collab with him. Having a show with Big Gigantic at the Aragon Ballroom this Saturday the 14th, I am excited to see what Probcause has next up his sleeve.
ProbCause comes out with the perfect summer album to listen to while you are out chillin with the homies. While ProbCause is busy on his nationwide tour in the states he managed to perfect his album Waves with some massive collaborations. Working with Exmag, Gibbz and Chicago locals Donnie Trumpet, Chance the Rapper and even Twista, Prob otherwise known as Colin Grimm spits the rawest lyrics over smooth beats. The diversity in music styles that Colin can work with shows what talent and creativity he is capable of. I cannot wait to hear what ProbCause has in store for the future. You can follow Prob on facebook and soundcloudto keep up with his updates as he continues on with his tour into the summer.
