For the first time in nearly 3 years, The Neighbourhood released a brand new album this past Thursday. It included popular tracks such as Prey and R.I.P.2 My Youth. There was something very unexpected from this album, though. It seems like the band has changed their music style almost completely. Veering away from Alternative rock, they have made their shift to deep R&B. Overall, It’s personal. Extremely detailed lyrics are telling stories in their songs. You can hear the expression of emotions in the vocals.
Something that I really liked about this album is how it’s extremely re-playable. If that’s even a word, this is something that I can listen to over and over again. Each time you re-play a song, you’ll pick up on something new; whether it’s a piece of the beat, or learning more about the lyrics. The stories only get deeper the more you hear it.
Let’s see, this beauty Kelela Mizanekristos is a singer based in Los Angeles; Her heritage is Ethiopian, and as a teenager she was voted Most Likely to Be a Pop Star, Alternative R&B vocalist and songwriter. Kelela was born in Washington D.C., grew up in suburban Maryland and didn’t have aspirations as a singer until she started studying jazz. She moved to Los Angeles in 2010 and Kelela’s mixtape CUT 4 ME was released on October 1st, 2013. Her sound consist of R&B, Electronic, Experimental, and Trip-hop! In April, Paper Mag listed Kelela as one of the Most Beautiful people Class of 2015,
This music video “A Message” will be intriguing for all Anime lovers at the end. Kelela’s video is totally mesmerizing. It focuses hard on Kelela’s face, as she cuts off her waist-length dreads and turns into an anime hallucination.“A Message” speaks to the misery that Kelela was experiencing at the time. The song represents the “rejection and amputation” period of a relationship, in which the entire EP represents the turbulent lifespan of a relationship.
What’s Next for Kelela
Kelela is an artist who explores different elements of genres and Loves hard. Her upcoming EP should be different from her mixtape which definitely revealed post-heartache and post-breakup songs, songs that were surrounding a relationship, and then a few songs that point to the actual cusp of change. To fall in and out of Love and start all over again.
Kelela is currently touring and performing at festivals overseas in Europe and in France. She is still working on her first EP debut, which was supposed to drop early May but it was delayed until further notice. She only wants to release the best and really felt bad about the delay of it to her fans that she apologized via twitter. Kelela has a gang of other songs she has recorded, especially this one with recording artist TinkKelela x Tink “Want it” .

Skrillex seems to never miss headlines this past year so far, expanding his music empire and reaching out to fans persistantly. With his recent album release “Recess”, in which he collabed with artists Diplo, Kill The Noise, Chance The Rapper, Ragga Twins, Alvin Risk, etc. and headlining Coachellaand possiblyLollapalooza, Skrillex isn’t showing any signs of stopping with yet another label (aside from OWSLA) Nest under Nest HQ.
“The concept of Nest HQ is simple really. It is a transparent vantage point into this culture that we all share and have created together” it reads on their website. “Its origins began with a global network of like-minded people who love to share their passions for music and art. Nest HQ is a window into this culture…” and it certainly is with AC Slater debuting this exclusively free-to-download label Nest with his 5-song EP “Back to the Floor”.
This whole EP will leave you in a groove you haven’t felt before, with some addictive basslines and raw synths, each song will have you like WHOA… In another state of mind. If you listen to the whole thing you’ll know what I mean. It would seem that AC has achieved his intentions stating in an interview on Nest HQ, “I want to focus more on the music and how it makes the individual feel. Everyone having their own experience and vibing out in the club rather than watching someone tell them what to do. It’s okay to zone out and get lost in the music.” That it is and with this idea behind his ep, these tracks would definitely attract a more intimate vibe on the dance floor.
It’s refreshing to see artists like AC Slater releasing tracks with their own style and originality. Bringing the crowd back to more vibin music, beats you can breathe and really dance too, inspiring a whole new crowd of music lovers to be more creative!
With all that being said! Check out the AC Slater’s Back to the floor epbelow and as promised by Nest, it’s a free download.
