Indie popsinger/songwriter from Sweden, Lykke Li (pronounced lick-e-lee) is a phenomenal artist that blends elements of indie pop, alternative, and electronic. Her debut album, Youth Novels, was released in 2008, her second album, Wounded Rhymes, was released in 2011, and her most recent album, I Never Learn, was released in 2014. She has collaborated with many underground artist and also popular artist such as U2.
Little Bit is from her 2008 album Youth Novels. It is about being in a “friends with benefits” relationship. As it says in this lyric “And for you I keep my legs apart, and forget about my tainted heart” She doesn’t want to be the first to admit that she is falling in love with that person. Lykke acknowledges in this song that she is just having sex with this person while trying to have no feelings involved. Being interested in someone but afraid to say it first for the fear of rejection is relatable to many people.
This video Gunshot is a song about dealing with an addiction to the point where it kills you, an addiction from love. This breakup ballad finds an anguished Lykke Li longing to get her lover back. This is also a moment in a relationship where you’ve fucked up knowing that some things you can never take back and it’s just gone forever.
Drift off to totally intangible places with violins, upbeat tempos, relationship anecdotes from Lykke Li. Her heavenly lyrics and soothing vocals can awaken relatable memories. Even though she is fairly new to the industry she is about to make her rise with Music, Art, and Fashion. She is also a collaborating designer for a collection with H&M and also apart of the Gucci Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Follow Her below on all her social media pages to see what’s next!
Since the start Golden Features has been a project by Tom Stell to express creativity in his own musical style, becoming an artist of his own, straying away from the tedious nature of mainstream edm artists. Since his debut self titled EP Golden Features has been getting recognized everywhere. Recently Golden was nominated for best break through artist by InTheMix next to artists like What So Not, Motez, Wave Racer & M4SONIC. The winner will be announced this August 6th at an invite only dinner.
Needless to say Golden has been real busy with his music and getting his name out there. He has also been working on other ways to express his creativity, looking into visual arts. As of late Golden released a music video for his track Tell Me ft. Nicole Millar. The video has a sinister vibe at first being filmed in black & white. Taking place in an abandoned warehouse with odd characters Golden takes you inside his head and gives you a glimpse of his world. Very fitting visuals for this track I would say check out the video below to see for yourself.
RL Grime has been puttin in some serious work in the studio. Working on his debut album, the man otherwise known as Henry Steinway is starting to build the hype by dropping some heat. Core, the first official single off his debut LP, is one proper trap anthem. Complete with an animated music video for the track, this original will break necks on the dance floor with it’s alarming synths and heavy bass and hard hitting snares.
Henry just keeps getting better and better at his craft and the release of this single only builds the anticipation for more new music. There is no official date for the album yet but it will be coming later this year on WeDidIt Records. For now check out RL Grime ‘do the shit that he do’ in the music video below. Hit up his soundcloud or the youtube description to get the link to purchase this track.
The legendary duo Basement Jaxx not too long ago dropped this animated music video for their single Unicorn. Animations in the video were created by Tomek Ducki. The song itself is a real groovy deep house track reminiscent of 90’s house music. With the words Jump In! repeated through the track it is not hard to start dancing and jumping along. Check out the video below.
DC & Hooks just released their new EP Somewhere Else on the first day of July. On this 8 track EP Zeds Dead brought back Omar Linx, who we all know to have worked with the Canadian duo on countless tracks, and Memorecks who worked on the single Jericho months prior. DC & Hooks also collabed with Big Gigantic, Bright Lights, Perry Farrell, Twin Shadow & D’Angelo Lacy and Sean Price to give this EP such amazing vibes that differentiate between each song from smooth and fluid to heavy and wild. Somewhere Else really shows this duo’s abilities to evolve their sound and adapt with the times and audiences to stay relevant while keeping that distinctive sound we all love so much.
Before the release of this EP Zeds Dead dropped plenty of preview tracks for Somewhere Else to keep fans ready for the new release. They came through not only with sounds to satisfying our ears but with visual stimulation as well. They unleashed a real tripped out video for the track Lost You ft Twin Shadow & D’Angelo Lacy. The psychedelic animations in the video reminiscent of a bad acid trip features melting faces and skulls, colorful animals and layering visuals with just about every color and pattern sequence you can think of. Check out the video below yourself.
Unloading previews and videos from the EP to fans might have seemed generous enough of them but check this out. Zeds Dead actually partnered up with bit torrent to give fans a package of free material from them. This package would include an unreleased track Love Me, full video of Lost You for you to own,the stems to their hit track Hadoukenand their first EP Fresh Beets when they were just known as Mass Productions. When the Disclosure brothers released a music video for their track “Help Me Lose My Mind” it was instantly put out in the spotlight, but not in a way you would think. The topic of discussion was that this video portrayed drug use in youth culture and so the controversial music video was taken off the web. But it was not long before it came back on the Daily Motion video portal. However, it disappeared from there as quickly as it came back. But in an Q&A with Revolt the two brothers didn’t seem to mind stating “Music videos aren’t our thing”.
Through the eyes of electronic music fans the music video would seem harmless. There is no such drug or drug use through out the whole video. Nope it is quite the opposite rather. The drug of choice in the video was not a drug at all. It was just the song that Disclosure made for the video in the first place. The kids in the video do what any music lover would do. They dance with a heightened sense of euphoria in their steps in a dimly lit club setting, with flashing lights and a yearning for adventure as the tune soothes their eardrums. As we all do when we hear such beautiful sounds.
The video? Well it is hard to find, but not impossible. With enough searching it came up on an Asian version of youtube. There is no telling how long it will stay up. But catch it while you can in this link right here and you decide. Is it too graphic for audiences? Hit play if you dare!
