Artist of the Week: Ayoo

Chicago is full of talented artist in every direction in every genre. One of Chicago’s most celebrated genres of course is house music; this city is its birthplace after all. It has come a long way since its start and today’s artist of the week Ayoo is a testament to that! Working heavily with bass house production, it is a more intense evolution from Chicago house and Detroit techno music, but the roots are all there and grounded. The two brothers popped into the scene a few years back and it has been non stop hard work, good music and memorable events; the Chicago electronic music duo plans to be on the radar for a while.

Not only some artists on the rise Ayoo also represent a whole bigger collective as well. Founded by Niick Niice the Be Nice Collective is a commnity of electronic house music DJ’s that has a good hold on the Chicago nightlife. Holding residencies at night clubs and bars like El Hefe, Soundbar, Tobacco Road Tap Room, Bottled Blonde and more, they present opportunities for locals to work, collaborate or just enjoy a night out. Ayoo’s ambitions alone backed with Be Nice network holds unlimited potential!

Aside from rockin’ Chicago’s night life dancer floors with their weekly residencies they duo have build a resume up on festivals and special guest events with popular artists. Notable shows include opening for artists like Taiki Nulight, Dogma, Dr. Fresch and Malaa; Tonight Ayoo adds Delta Heavy to the list opening at Chop Shop in Wicker Park. The duo also hit Spring Awakening Music Festival back to back the last couple years and for good reason! They guys not only have the network but they have the sound.

Coming up on more an more recognition as time goes on Ayoo hit yet another milestone this week after officially releasing their hit summer single TIMELINE, featuring RhymSter, under Artist Intelligence Agency. This again presents more opportunities for the duo as their music has the potential to reach more audiences and even more interested labels. Packing with a growing list of bass house originals the duo also make some bold remixes, improving on some timeless tracks like DOO WOP by Lauryn Hill, and LOW LIFE by Future and the Weeknd.

Debuting with their single ORIJINAL last summer they have come along way in their production, their latest release shows the most improvement in quality in their music thus far. This time picking out G4NJ4 by Groove Delight it sounds like Ayoo is really getting comfortable with where they are headed with their music. Time can only tell where these two are headed with their sound and collective. They has brought upon themselves really significant opportunities and They and hit a lot of milestones in a short period of time. I would recommend keeping an eye on this local titans!

Change It Up With Saladin

Many artists release a genre consistent set of music but that is not how Saladin works. His consistency is in change and most artists typically get the cold shoulder from fans for this but he has his own formula keeping his listeners captivated. From House music to Future Bass, Trap to Dubstep Saladin works it all with no hesitation, though House and Techno are rudimentary. Just within the last couple of months we got to taste his creativity in most of our favorite music styles.

Keeping it different with every release he really shows his versatility as an artist. Since the start of the year Saladin been releasing diverse and note worthy beats, even gaining support from artists like Hardwell, Morgan Page & more with tracks like his House influenced C’mon Now on Revealed Recordings. There is something to learn from every genre in production and the quality of his music shows that. This opens him up to working with diverse set of artists as well. On top of that he can always keep it fresh whether it be on the dance floor or on a playlist, Saladin can control any audience with ease.

Most recently he works with Trap, Future Bass and House music. Starting here with GNGBNGR, Saladin rides a simple melody and beat pattern while a vocal sample chimes in, “I used to be a gang banger… now I’m just a mother f*ckin’ headbanger”, into a smooth bass drop and high frequency synths. Turning that vibe around with ITSALL4U with more ambient melodies and bass-lines for his Future Bass fans. Then finally he comes back to House music with his latest, Fight For Love, featuring EDM vocalist OMZ with the hopeful lyrics, “I can’t even look you in the eye its the darkest night of my life… But baby we can fight for love tonight“. Listening to Saladin music you will feel all kinds of ways, you will catch yourself throwing elbows to jumping and dancing.

Whethan & Oliver Tree – Enemy

Working with frequent collaborator Oliver Tree, Whethan from Chicago created another anthem and a dope beat. Working with many popular artists like Flux Pavilion, Elohim, Max, Ashe and Louis the Child Whethan got ahead in the game quick. With sounds that he is producing its was only inevitable. Enemy itself here sounds like it can go up against a Justice beat with its similar style.

Can Never Have Too Much Amtrac Music

Amtrac seems to have an endless outlet of creativity. He is on a steady stream releasing EP’s and remixes. Looking way out of the box for musical inspiration. Releasing earlier this month a remix of Sigur Rós’s  Heysátan. The musical piece, performed with live instruments such as brass, guitar and piano synth, has some age to it. Amtrac revives the Icelandic bands song into a melancholic house beat. Adding an ambient synth over the original brass melody and splicing in some vocals. A free download Right after releasing a couple of EP’s back to back.

While always working on remixes he always comes back around with the original sound. Releasing Farewell and Renton on Waze & Odyssey’s Street Tracks following another 2 track EP on Kidnap Kid’s Birds That Fly label. Some of the best tunes to hit a dance floor that can sway audiences between ambient beats an deep basslines, Amtrac does it big. Not even stopping there because while he is not releasing originals he has some more remixes.

With no signs of stopping, his most recent remix, Days Of Lavender. An ambient track leaving you drifting off. From Promises Ltd. EP by Chrome Sparks and Charlie Brand Amtrac targets Days of Lavender. An upbeat electro track off the duos debut EP reimagined.  You will instantly hear the difference but both leave you breathless. Option4 Stimulates Minds & Ears with EP Comic Project

Though based in Denver, CO Brennen Bryarly stays close to his Chicago family with roots deeply embedded in deep house and underground. Under the alias Option4 he took the underground Chicago house sound and made his own formula out of it and continues to push his creative limits. His influence has given him opportunities to befriend Chicago artists’ like Autograf and remix a track or collaborate with. He has also been able to take his Chicago influence to his home in Denver and reshape the underground house scene there with his promotional company the Hundred and music festival Cloak & Dagger.

Over the last month Option4 has been releasing a new project little by little through NestHQ releases. Working with Sweat It Out label on this, this project is outside the box than your conventional EP releases. Collaborating with Ashley Jones on art illustrations, Brennen has created a soundtrack for an alternate reality comic book series based upon characters and friends in his music career and home city of Denver, CO. The outcome is quite an entertaining and interactive experience between fans and the artist.

The comic is based upon the legalization of marijuana in Denver, CO and the expectations that came out of it vs the reality. Many believed the legalization of the herb would raise crime rate levels as a consequence. What has happened was quite the opposite, the city thrived economically and everyone was too baked and happy to produce crime. This comic portrays the expectations of the fearful public and as the listener and reader you can listen to and watch as the story unfolds with every release.

Kaskade With A Couple Surprising Collabs

It always slips my mind that Kaskade is from Chicago. One of the few and growing number of artists that built a name for themselves coming out of this beautiful city. Giving himself opportunities to work with artists like Alicia Keys as he did with his lastest hit In Common. Putting her in a different element from her usual soul and R&B selection. The two artist work on beautiful dance track with somewhat of a Latino vibe to get your hips shaking on the dance floor.

Then one after another Kaskade releases another collab this time with Too Many Zoos; A trio famous for the subway jams on Youtube. With a combination of horns and house music the artists pull together Jorts, a wild track filled with energy that you cannot help but jump around too. Building up with pumps on the saxophone, it leads to a trumpet blaring drop and holds that energy throughout over an ambient lead by Kaskade.
