The League Champs are at it again with another music video for the fans. CantBuyDeem & ESSSE get together for a beat for LEAGUE CHAMPS VOL I, the two also got busy making a video, shot by Hayward, obviously. Performed live plenty of times in front of fans already, Cantbuydeem always introduces this song subtly, “if you know you know, what keep a whistle means…” which basically is to flex your 2nd amendment. Coming from Chicago, you would know that is an important piece of advice, and Cantbuydeem gives you all the reasons why in his verse; which all adds up to, good cautious living and self care attracts predators! “I’m smokin lemon haze and sippin lemonade and jamo. Slice of cucumber in my water I don’t fuck with Faygo. I won’t get boogie on you baby, I just cut the fake off...” Finishing off with “…you see me comin’ thru the exits, its about perspective. Treating the clown for disrespectin’, make that shit look sexy, if i got dead presidents in my wallet, slave masters in my pockets.” Essse finishes off the track in style, lyrically representing the hispanic community, his raw energy always keeping the track hype.
When it comes to abstract art and artists, most would think of visual art, but ESSSE Guey takes the idea and places it into his music. From his image, to his spelling, to his lyrics and wild behavior. Essse really does not follow the rules, and it works out for him musically and even visually, with his collection of music videos. As a Hip Hop artists he puts his whole mind on display, and he does not shy away from those explicit thoughts either!
His most recent music video, OD Featuring RhymSter, is a perfect visual representation of abstract antics. In the video, you will see ESSSE climbing gates, jumping around a ware house, running around dark rooms fitted with a betelgeuse (Beetlejuice) getup and masks. “Open minded odyssey, anarchy to gravity, higher than a remedy, OD off of-” ESSSE pops in with the chorus. Even the whole format of the video is abstract, with skits in the middle and the end, and even bloopers and behind the scenes footage to really reel you in.
From his image and antics, you can see the Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso esque quality ESSSE brings to hip hop. But more than only his style and attitude, his lyricism brings him a long way as well. Recently releasing a 6 track EP, dubbed TIMES LIKE THESSSE, featuring many local artists like Baggz, Black Joe, BeatrixKiddo, RhymSter and Mike Booth. Pay attention to how expresses himself in his songs, ad-libbing with grunts, growls and barks, bouncing between Spanish and English language. His lyrics can cover anything from being carefree, ominous thoughts and activities, mischievousness, sexuality, hustle and motivation, as evident through just the song titles in TIMES LIKE THESSSE, like NO CHASIN, NO Z’S, DO NOT GIVE A DAMN and SKULLS.
Everybody has an artist they listen to all day on repeat no matter how many times they have heard them. Come across ESSSE Guey and you might find yourself in a similar predicament. Fusing a bit of Hispanic culture and lyricism into Hip Hop he adds a unique touch to his already outlandish persona. A persona that videographer Lonnie Edwards captures nicely, again through imagery with a second music video project for ESSSE following his V.I.M.M. (Let It Reign) music video.
Linking up with fellow Chicago Hip Hop head who recently released his own EP dubbed Pure Noon, RhymSter hits the first verse heavy after letting the beat run off. ESSSE ends it strong with a catchy flow leaving you feeling like hitting that replay button. He releases this track as his first single off his forthcoming project DREAMWORXXX which, judging by this song, is likely to be filled with plenty raw and authentic hip hop and nothing less. No official release dates yet so lets stay updated on his links & browse his latest releases.
Essse Guey pops out to reinforce a previously released track from his Over the Daze LP picking out a popular track to add some visuals too. Neorevivalist on duty giving V.I.M.M. life with some animated visuals matching the atmosphere of the slow and ominous beat. With a style so smooth he is not afraid to get dark with hooks like “You get left behind, F*** up out my eye, ready to die, Don’t really have a choice, voices in my mind” and “Over mad or under oath only real ones slit they throat, …cross-face, swan dive, head first, there’s a million ways to make another suicide note” and make it work. A timeless track produced by Dead_Air worth giving a double take and a surreal music video following his last for Constellations.
Can you put together a video with just a handful of props? With just a few familiar faces, finger light gloves, a dark room and a whole lot of attitude ESSSE formed Constellations. Directed by Brandon Holmes, he turned the beat created by Moltar & mixed by Frekwenzy into a visual stimulant featuring model Afrika Benjamin. A wild make over for the track previously released on his last EP Over The Daze. Essse has been busy releasing singles like Ya Tu Sabe with Ever Evolved and other projects so be prepared!
Ever Evolved and close associates come again with a big collab. Coming together we have Safi G, ESSSE and Unkle Slump with Rhymster on the mic and Gridlock and Frekwenzy providing the production.
