Defining the word Smooth can have many different meanings. It could mean being easy going, having a way with words, to be extremely cool or just completing everything down the line with finesse. Smooth Rhythm, a singer/musician and a #SANDLOTCREW member, was born and raised on the northwest side of Chicago. Watching him play his guitar certifies he has the qualities of being smooth and the rhythm he brings with his talent will make people move out their seat.
Listen above to Smooth latest song titled “Wait A Minute” produced by Eric “MachoBeatz” Camacho also an #SANDLOTCREW affiliate. In this songSmooth expresses how he sees this pretty lady at a lounge where he had to stop and get those digits before she preceded to leave out the door with her friends. Smooth also encourages his fellow Men on his SoundCloud page with this statement, “To all my dudes get your game on and talk to that lady…” As you can see he’s definitely not afraid.
As a musician Smooth is a Universal Artist. There is no one genre he attaches himself with, he does it all. From Hip-hop, Spanish, Reggae, to R&B , thinking outside the box is more of his mechanism. Smooth not only enjoys listening to all different types of music genres, he is open to working on collaborations with other artist as he progressing with his own music career.
Smooth is currently performing his titled song “I wanna love you” which is inspired by the hit song made by Bob Marley. This version is transformed into his own style and lyrics. Log on to Facebook andClick This to see a live performance.
Ladies get ready to throw your sexy panties to the stage. Per a previous conversation I had with Smooth Rhythm, his music is for everyone all over the world to listen to, nevertheless, he is a Ladies Man. Possibly there will be special moments when he may even grab a special lady out of her seat to sing and dance with him on stage. Wouldn’t that be a treat? Not only does he sing good but from the looks above he may even be good with his hands. Which could lead to why he plays the guitar so passionately.
What’s Coming Up Next for Smooth Rhythm
Smooth Rhythm is presently performing at different Open Mics around the city of Chicago. He is writing, recording, making music with other artist and gearing up for a music video for his song “Wait A Minute” which will be featured this Summer. Local Chicagoan Colin Grimm otherwise known as Probcause is gettin known quite quickly from fans to artists and labels. It is his unique style of rapping and the energy he brings to a stage for an audience. It is his music itself that has alot of energy on its own so it is hard not to get known, only to feeding his ego! Getting the attention by some real dope artists too.
Prob has turned the heads of the Lowtemp crew and other artists alike and the music they make together is pretty perfect. It is like perfect match in creative minds. Recently hookin up with another Chicago artist Manic Focus to make a sexy remix of Exmags track Tilt Mode with Gibbz. Prob is not unknown to Exmag either, having made a track together on his latest album Wavesand working with Lowtemp creator Gramatik on a real cool super creative beat that will make you wanna grab a beer n party till you get loud!
Speaking of collabing with dope artists Colin has started another project aside from Probcause. Linking up with Hologram Kizzie, aka Psalm One, to give you Zro Fox. Get it? Pretty cool, and they announced the collab with a serisouly dope music video for their single Might Not, as a preamble to their album to be released later.
Hologram Kizzie and Prob have been workin together for a while since 2008 from live sets at the Bottom Lounge up to Lincoln Hall in Chicago, to working on a few songs here and there on records such as the Recipe Vol. 1 & 2 covering multiple genres.Recently playing here in our very own city of Chicago in Lincoln Hall, is where they first layed down Zro Fox’s single Might Not and it was magnificent.
Watching the two flow together on the mic so flawlessly was amazing. They work very well together, them and Kat V the beautuful violinist, Cofresi and other artists that Prob likes to collab with frequently and bring up on stage. Manic Focus is also known to work with a violinist, Colin n JmaC share some similar interests! Colin definitely knows how to spot and pick a good artist that would be compatible to collab with him. Having a show with Big Gigantic at the Aragon Ballroom this Saturday the 14th, I am excited to see what Probcause has next up his sleeve.
Chris.Ekoh, local artist from Chicago, comes back strong with another track. Those Eyes is an upbeat song with a soothing acoustic guitar over an electronic beat. Vocals by the man himself with lyrics as good or better than his last track Slow Release. The catchy chorus can match up to any popular pop song on the radio , you will probably catch yourself putting this one on repeat.

DJ Rashad passes away Saturday, April 26 at the at of 34.
DJ Rashad was found unresponsive on the West Side of Chicago at 1:30 pm. The cause of death was a blood clot in his leg. Rashads cousin made his label Hyperdub aware of the cause after reports from blogs and other media outlets prematurely concluded that his cause of death was due to an overdose. News of his death began circulating through social media websites as friends and artists began posting their condolences after DJ Godfather, who was scheduled to play alongside DJ Spinn & Rashad that evening, revealed the news via Twitter.
Born Rashad Harden, the local Chicago DJ is well known for his influences and contributions to the rise of the juke and footwork scene in the city. Getting involved with ghetto house in his early years he started out dancing and taking part in battles before moving on to DJing and his own music productions alongside lifelong friend and collaborator DJ Spinn. Rashad and the Teklife crew gained a reputable following after Rashad signed with British Dance Label Hyperdub and releasing a beautiful dance album “Double Cup” in 2013. DJ Rashad also released a new ep “We On 1” on the 22nd of April, the first release on Southern Belle Recordings.
Check out DJ Rashad perform at last years Pitchfork Music Festival.
Hyperdub and Rashad’s representatives have released a statement on his death. Read it in full below:
DJ Rashad aka Rashad Hanif Harden, 34-years-old (born October 9th 1979) the Calumet City, IL-based DJ and producer, passed away around Saturday, April 26, 2014 on Chicago’s Lower West Side. He leaves behind a nine-year-old son, Chad and his parents, mother Gloria Harden, and father, Anthony Harden. The cause of his death has not yet been determined.
Rashad’s father told the Chicago Sun Times on Saturday: “Since he was a kid, he’s been doing this. He knew what he wanted to do, and a lot of us don’t get a chance to make our dream come true.”
His manager, Wes Harden: “Rashad was a kind soul that left an indelible mark on the music world as the torchbearer of Footwork and Juke. Rest assured that all of those close to him will make sure that the legacy lives on for a great man whose life has been cut far too short.”
Kode9 from Hyperdub: “I was honored to release music from Rashad on Hyperdub. I’ve only known him for around 3 years, but he had become a good friend and one of my biggest musical influences. He was one of the funniest, most positive people I’ve ever met and a true innovator. Everyone at the label is devastated by his passing and wish to send our sincere condolences to all his friends and family in Chicago, the Teklife crew and anyone anywhere who was graced by his presence and uplifted by his music. I’ll never forget singing duet with him in a karaoke bar in Tokyo”
DJ Rashad was a quintessential figurehead in the evolution from Ghetto House to Chicago Juke to Footwork and one of the artists to have to consistently pushed the evolution of the Footwork genre forward. He was born in Chicago and moved to the deep south suburb of Calumet City, IL soon after. Rashad started out as a dancer (around the time he was in seventh grade) cutting his teeth with some of the most respected dance groups including HouseOMatics, The Phyrm, and Wolf Pac. He quickly thereafter took up DJing with some of his first public gigs around 1992 at spots like his sixth grade high school club Jubilation. He met his longtime ally, DJ Spinn, during homeroom class at Thornwood High School in 1996. They quickly began producing tracks at each others’ houses. During this era, they DJ’d parties with the likes of RP Boo, DJ Clent, Gant-Man and others.. His first release to make it to vinyl was the track Child Abuse on Dance Mania (mislabeled as DJ Thadz) in 1998. Following the release of his single Itz Not Rite (Planet Mu) and his inclusion on the Bangs and Works album (Planet Mu) circa late 2010 he was constantly in demand around the world and spent the majority of his time on the road touring the world as a DJ, more often than not in tandem in with his closest, lifelong friend, DJ Spinn.
He was involved in many Footwork cliques – including Beatdown House (founded by DJ Clent), the Ghettoteknitianz (with DJ Spinn) and Teklife. As a producer his crowning achievement was the October 2013 release of his album Double Cup on Hyperdub Records featuring collaborations with DJ Spinn, Taso, DJ Phil, Manny, Earl and Addison Groove. His last performance as a DJ was at Vinyl Club in Denver, CO on April 24, 2014. A new EP We On 1 is slated for release today Monday April 28th via a new Houston-based label called Southern Belle. His collaborationsAcid Life with Gant-Man and Bombaklot with DJ Earl and DJ Taye are featured on the forthcoming Hyperdub 10th anniversary celebration album Hyperdub 10.1 which will be released May 20th. His music will live on eternally.

Recently I got to experience a Trentino live performance as BOAT with Big Once at the Mid in Chicago and I was quite impressed. The Chicago locals rocked the set with mixing and scratching skills on the turntables with a song selection that’ll have any party bangin.
After the show I was definitely keepin a lookout for more of Trentino and low and behold, the man dropped this track earlier today.“Mr. OG Bobby Johnson himself, Que, sent me these vocals a few weeks ago so I made this to play out. It’s a free download, so enjoy!” He wrote in the description of the track. The vocals for this track is like something you would expect in a trap recording and the grinding bass synths and bouncy beats will have you jumping around the dancefloor. You can bring life to any party with this track and fortunately for you it is a free download!
Check out OG Trentino below
Trentino was forced to abandon his soundcloud page due to copyright infringement policy. But you can still check out his most recent work on his youtube channel here
These Chicago locals otherwise known as theB.A.N.D.I.T. Crew are aspiring lyricists and producers lookin for a spot in the chicago music scene, and from first listen it is not hard to conclude that these guys have some real potential. Accounting for only about a quarter of the Bandit crew, Rhymster, Safi MF G, and Chosen, spit some real lyrics over this smooth instrumental beat that will leave your head bobbin and your soul vibin. The crew bringing the original hip hop vibe back with their own style and energy that keeps their sound relevant to the changing times. Fresh lyrics like this makes you wonder why the mainstream “hip hop” artists and “rappers” are even relevant themselves.
Don’t snooze on the Bandit Crew! Listen and download “4 in the Mornin” below and follow their soundcloud
