The Charmaine Makeda EP: Woman Crush Wednesday

There is always room for fresh artists to be recognized and Chicago is flourishing. Seeing an influx of soulful and R&B singers, we are introduced to yet another talented voice. Charmaine Makeda steps up to the mic with a debut self titled EP Project, after releasing a few singles. Adding to the already diverse plate of creatives in Chicago, she notes to social media there is only more to come.

Seven songs deep, the EP starts out with SEE YOU AGAIN, a passionate song of romance, with a chorus that will have you singing along by the second go. LONELY gets more sensual, with a touch of saxophone, slow deep bass and a catchy piano loop, keeping the vocals to a seductive whisper. As her EP continues Charmaine gets deeper into her mind and her thoughts, a deep thinking romantic, embracing her humanity. ANXIETY INTERLUDE and NOTE 2 MYSELF, is the back and forth in our head, the lows and highs, that happens to the best of us. Charmaine Makeda so eloquently, fluently and fearlessly expresses her mind, from beginning to end, resulting in a beautiful project.

Her debut EP even dips into more cultural genres like reggae, and reggaeton creating a diverse portfolio from the start.

Starting REALISY off strong with a MAKE IT, a collaboration featuring K Breeze, and J. Trav. Walking the line of confidence and ambition with a hook like, “My future I can see it. Me’chelle Comes Back Like A Whirlwind: Woman Crush Wednesday

Real lowkey artist with a soulful voice, Me’chelle presents her fans with WHIRLWIND. Since performing at an Ever Evolved Empower Herstory event a few years back, her sound and energy could not escape the mind. Patience is well deserved as WHIRLWIND brings a sound of peaceful composure. Speaking like a goddess and a guardian, “but when we let that hurt go look how great we can be, two god like beings, with a billion destiny, I dont need you to rescue me, and with out you I’m complete.” Though the chorus would imply personal relationships, the simple yet powerful lyrics echoes independence and security. The R&B and Soulful energy brought by the drum pattern, bass line and ambient sounds compliment Me’Chelles vocals, creating a disarming yet relaxing vibe when you need it.

Find Your Way With New Brittany Nacole Music: Woman Crush Wednesday

Patiently waiting for new Brittany Nacole tunes, and our ears are finally rewarded with the glorious sound of her voice! Back with a new record after a long hiatus, time has certainly polished her talent like water in nature. Of course an artist works at their own pace, and perfection cannot be rushed! For Brittany does not create music for the moment but timeless sounds to be played repeatedly. Still buzzing in our head is the melodies of her EARF GURL LP, released just 3 years ago, followed up with NOCAINE & RIOT singles, just a year apart from one another, giving you an idea of her musics timelessness.

The energy Brittany emits through her music is quite calming and savory, giving you a sense of comfort and relaxation. Not something to lounge to, but to stroll and dance to confidently in your own energy, influenced by her sound. This still holds true with her new track HAVE YOUR WAY. The chorus itself can take you away on a cloud, “Would you like it, if I let you have your way. Don’t you fight it, baby have your way. Been a while now, since I saw your face. Been a minute, we’ve been on the chase.” This R&B track is instantly timeless, and we can go for another while cruising on this tune happily, but let us hope we hear some more Brittany Nacole sooner rather than later!

Simone Is Unapologetic In Her Latest Music Video: Woman Crush Wednesdy

Coming into scene on a rooftop, smokin’, Simone overlooks the city of Chicago, with the sunset at the golden hour in her latest music video, SORRY NOT SORRY. As 2020 comes to a close, the singer, songwriter, dancer and fitness coach can look back at an active year when it comes to music. The video follows up on a her single ENERGI, released in the autumn season, as well as her earlier track BETTER, a 4 track EP titled GO and her 5 track album SET. Moving quick and big with her moves, it was time to get Simone back behind camera for another music video!

The beat starts it off with some foreign chanting sample, looped to a hip hop beat, giving off a rural cultural style in the otherwise very urban city. Makes for a dramatic and authentic vibe into Simone’s entry as she gets to her verses, “Big ego, tight waist, short temper, boss up, pop off, remember.” With a boss attitude, standing elevated above the city, she claims her independence and hustle, “Now I get blessed with the lick. Hear the money callin’ me ring, ring. Fuck a label, now I’m gonna sing, sing.” Thinking smart on her boss shit, because labels take too much and give too little, Simone is heading in the right direction with this quality music and attitude.

Ness Heads Won’t Die In A Flashback: Woman Crush Wednesday

Ness Heads came to attention here at an Ever Evolved through one of our Empower HerStory events in 2018. Her energy was laid back but hard to ignore, as she calmly spits some raw verses into the mic for the crowd. Seemingly fragile, yet her words are powerful, she has not lost that touch with her newest release, DIE IN A FLASHBACK, featuring another Chicago artist femdot. Allowing her self vulnerability but strength at the same time, to face doubts, hesitations and the past dwelling within, as all artists do, especially during such stagnating times that 2020 brought. This track can serve as a reminder not to dwell on the past and DIE IN A FLASHBACK, but instead, to pick yourself up create new moments and ignite passion for life. A deep message wrapped up in a dope hip hop track, with heavy bass, high hat and snare beat work, and a head boppin’ rhythm; the change up between femdot and Ness is just nasty, the two compliment each others flow flawlessly.

Addicted To New Kellen Fescina Music: Woman Crush Wednesday

Coming up upon another talented artist that displays the amazing diversity in Chicagos music scene. A model with a beautiful voice, Kellen Fescina comes into attention with a sensual pop single called ADDICTED. Not new to the mic in the slightest however, Kellen has a few releases this year following a hiatus. Currently armed with a 12 track album and some singles, she has bounced between synth pop styles, dance music tracks and experimental rock. ADDICTED takes on more of an R&B aura, and shows a maturity and more confidence in her presentation compared to her earlier work!

Singing “Boy you got me drunk off your love, it’s addicting! I need it, I fiending! You got me losing my mind,” over a slow beat and piano chords. The chorus uplifts you with a vibrant emotional serenade, as you fall into a dream state! A powerful yet gentle tune to add to your playlist, to really get the vibe right in an intimate setting. This track follows LEAVE ME and SHINING, a hip hop and house beat respectively, released earlier this year. Quite a different energy from her earlier releases in her album LOVE IS A GAME, where that album treads into retro and old school styles and influences, while her recent releases have more a contemporary, confident and original quality. It is always interesting to hear an artists experiments and progression!
