Towkio is back again with more visuals and a new single. Awaiting his upcoming tour with Amine, Hot Shit gets the drop on youtube following his release of Drift that hit about three quarter million views. The video follows a group of people dubbed 3doubleU. The camera gets familiar with their characters as synths pulse under Towkios prelude of verses. Just press play and you will get hypnotypized by this Hot Shit.
The anticipation was high and the room was packed from wall to wall in House of Vans on the night of the LSD video premier. Jamila Woods had thrown a free show in the early evening hours for fans to experience some live music. We all had the privilege to be the first to see the new visuals. The event highlighted a CPS student and aspiring film maker award and achievement as well as benefit SocialWorks, an art nonprofit under Chance the Rapper.
As the lights dimmed and the projector lights up the wall, the crowds chanted as Jamila appears angelic in Lake Michigan. Many women commending Jamilas confidence in her skin jeered louder. The setting brings us to the lake and more importantly, familiar neighborhoods, highlighting the deeper layers of our city. Chance the Rapper commands a grill surrounded by family and friends as children run and play around Jamila relaxing a kiddy pool in the front yard. A Chicago that is not linked to violence as too many assume. A side more reserved for the locals.
As the camera pans across Chance the crowd lets out another cheer as simultaneously, the video leaves a warm feeling of grace for our beautiful city. The purpose of the video fulfilled. The idea coming Ashley Huicochea, from Prosser Career Academy who had the opportunity to work, learn and gain skills pertaining to film and directing. An effort by Vincent Martell and Sam Bailey from VAM Studio to include more students in the process of film making. The dedication Jamila Woods, Chance the Rapper and the rest of their hardworking crew have for the newer generations inspires and positively influences Chicago greatly. Their collective effort shines in the results.
Ethos is the characteristic spirit of a culture, era or community. Is he a single representation of a growing community of creative geniuses coming out of Chicago? Or an activist and a voice echoing the resistance of ideologies and labels society places upon groups of individuals? Maybe a poet with deep perspectives on love and life?
In the beginning of the month, from Chicago, Ethos releases his debut album appropriately titled August. More than a musical measure it is filled with poetry defining creativity, beauty, power and change. A love note to Chicago in his own words. On the album are a series of collabs including Smoko Ono, Ashe Om, Tasha, Morimoto, Chul, Happie and Cosmo. Loaded with local talent this LP’s unique presentation challenges traditional album projects.
Put together by a kickstarter, their fourth full length album, Sidewalk Chalk unleashes an awe defying project that defines their growth as a group. Self described as the album they have always been trying to make, The Orchid Is Born elucidates their position within themselves and their community in 2017. Blending in Hip Hop, Jazz, Funk and Soul the group together solidify their sound and style to an art perfected by a powerful conscious lyrics.

Splitting the album into three parts, the band goes through the Hope, the Loss and the Birth. Kicking it off with energy and motivation with Infinite Growth and onto smooth love serenades with Take The Time. All the love and excitement give way to challenge and controversy. Wake Up, We Burn You Down highlights our abuse of Mother Earth; Will We shines light on the rising oppressive injustices of political elite. A Suite For Black Lives stresses ongoing police brutality towards the black community. How much will we take? Will we accept defeat or fight for peace?
In order for this change to happen we Bloom Again. Being grateful helps find the inner peace to bring change to your world. The Orchid Is Born personifies hope, struggle, change and growth through sound, ideas and events. A monument to the Sidewalk Chalks growth as a band working together and perfecting a sound and idea. Pulling their resources together to make this project happen with the best in production, Grammy award winner Robert “Sput” Searight. Taking this album tour around North America, you can catch them in Chicago late September. Details on their website!

On the local spectrum he has Chance the Rapper, Manic Focus Hologram Kizzie, Twista, Cofresi, Palmer Squares, Drew Mantia & More holdin him down. Puttin on Chicago while it reciprocates.
All this artist collaboration brings new perspective and creative influence keeping his music diverse and his fans hopelessly addicted; Giving him the ability to bounce between genres like funk, jazz, bass and hip hop. This is evident in his playlist and in his latest collaborations.
While touring and doing his thing Probcause got to add a couple more artists to his list of collaborations. Performing with the Floozies and Cherub in between states the idea of a collaboration turned reality with Arithmetic. The Electro Funk band holds a style that we already know Colin gets down to time and time again as you know with his Big Gigantic remix and collab with Manic Focus. More recently feautured in Canadian Hip Hop artist Def3’s recent LP produced by Late Night Radio on the track Sing; Furthering his reach to a broader audience and simultaneously observing his growing reputation among more popular artists.
The Cool Kids have been building up much anticipation since releasing their first couple of singles off of their upcoming re-union album. Since Connect Four and Running Man, the duo released two more singles Check Out and TV Dinner accompanied with music videos to raise the excitement. Chuck Inglish and Sir Michael Rocks have been busy working and promoting their projects. Their forth coming album Special Edition Grand Master Deluxe recently saw a pop up shop at Congruent Space closing in on the release date soon to come.
How ever that is not all the Cool Kids have been working on. Amongst touring around the states and appearing on publications like The Price Is Aight and radio show with Hannibal Buress promoting themselves they got one more idea that makes this reunion one of the greatest. These two not only have talent in production and lyricism but this Labor Day weekend they will be adding acting and comedy to their resume. The Shit Show a Sketch Comedy show created by Jimmy Regular that will star the duo will take things to the next level in their career in entertainment.

You got to listen to the Autobiography as it is. From beginning to end Vic Mensa tells the story about his life up to this point. Blood, Sweat and Tears have been poured into the making of this album; his debut LP, as he explains throughout his interviews prior the release date. From cheating death to experiencing. From heartaches, headaches and addictions to politically charged words he bears all.
Mensa has a prominent history preceding him. Leading up to this point Vic Co-Founded SAVEMONEY in the early twenty teens with successful local Chicago artists, TOWKIO, Kami, Joey Purp, Nico Segal and Chance amongsts others; influencing the direction of Chicago Hip Hop among many talented MC’s Producers and Instrumentalists. Releasing solo projects with visionaries in hip hop production like Cam O’bi, Phoelix and oddCouple. Needless to say his debut album release was a long time coming.
A long time worth waiting though once you see the names collaborating on the album. Fellow Chicago artists Chief Kief and Joey Purp get the invite on Down For Some Ignorance. Other collaborators will include Weezer, Pharrell & Saul Williams, Ty Dolla Sign, Pusha T, Syd tha Kid and the Dream. Even Carl from Chicago’s favorite show Shameless brings his talents to the table in a music video for OMG with Pusha T. If that is not enough we even have the Chicago Hip Hop icon in production No I.D.
If that is not enough for putting love back into your city, Vic visits NPR to stream his whole album for his fans to hear before the release. Just getting his story, his human side out there though music. A sobering reminder that an artist like Vic Mensa goes through every day struggles and metal and physically as anyone else. But also at full potential, capable of achieving great success and greatness in whatever it is that makes you happy.
The inevitable has happened, Towkio titles a song Drift, matching the Fast and Furious. But the setting subject in the music video is not even close to. Towkio takes his cameras to the sands of Mexico at the location of the Pyramid of the Sun, drifting the winding roads of the desert and scaling the high canyons. Instantly and happily acknowledging he did not sample the movie tune, much to our satisfaction on the contrary Towkio raps over a heavy bass beat with fast percussive instrumentation filling your veins with adrenaline.
Amassing over five hundred thousand hits on youtube since its release is just a testament to the quality of this track. As part of the SAVEMONEY collective that kind of quality would be expected by now. Towkios career pretty much cemented associated with much of the music community changing the face of Chicagos hip hop scene in early twenty teens. Making similarly big moves to this day Towkio is scheduled to tour with Amine across the US. Catch the man to hear massive tune live.
Knox Fortune releases a Lil Thing for the fans. A real mellow electronic beat that will keep you in the clouds. Accompanied with the song, a music video setting the atmosphere visually. The song includes additional assistance from Nico Segal and Carter Lang on production and Joey Purp with writing. Long time friends and collaborators.
The Producer from Chicago has a playlist filled with hip hop, pop and alternative beats with notable artists. In the early Twenty-Teens Knox was influential in the rise of successful Chicago artists. Vic Mensa, Chance, Leather Corduroys amongst others entrusted Knox with providing quality production. Producers like Knox and oddCouple found themselves in the middle of a music movement in Chicago that boosted their careers exponentially.
When you put your friends on and work passionately it comes back to you in measures! Knox is another good example coming out of Chicago. Now releasing solo work to top 100k+ plays. Success works best with a team of like minded people. Keep on the lookout for Knox Fortune, his story is only beginning.
My new song/video Lil Thing is out now. I hope you guys like it 🙂 – KnoxFortune.com
