Julian Xtra has had a lot of fun poking fun at gimmicks with his nickname Sex the Rapper building controversy, hate, love and followers. With a brilliantly marketed ep dubbed the Sex Tape he pulled off some dope songs and collabs. Recently remixing Too Much Pride with Miss Chiff the two pull a music video with it as well following a Something, Something Something video collab.

Backed with an idea we can all agree on, producers and the local underground talent in Chicago do not get the appreciation they deserve. Working together with multiple popular up and coming locals Glassic creates an album highlighting some of the best in the city. Joining artists and collaborators Marko Stat$, Futura Bloom and Qari this year amongst other Chicago artists to release an LP or EP this year. Though it would not be his first big project this year Safe Travels follows the Motions EP along with a couple singles.

It would be hard to say you have not heard of Chai Tulani if you frequent local music acts in Chicago. The man has been making moves left and right and making his music known. Born in Kenya and raised in Chicago, he started releasing mixtapes in 2013 with Visions of Zion, joining this burst of artists from the local areas. Tulani introduces his brand of Soul Hop music for Chicago to indulge in, creating more diversity in the music renaissance.
This year has been especially significant as he brings more audiences to his shows with newer music to perform! Between shows at Sub T, Emporium, the Metro and local festivals like Pilsen and TIP, fans flock to the stage to hear tracks like All The Way which is coupled with a music video feauture Ridley Victoria, and his most recent release Pulse. Locals Gifted Keys and John Renaissance join Tulani on the track for that added ambiance. Not only representing his brand of future bass constantly evolving but he takes it a step further showcasing his skills with a magnificent video. Following a collab and remix release she redefines her style on Hologram Midnight with synths that would accompany 80’s styled futuristic apocalyptic adventures. The intros buildup prepares you for the journey through dark basslines and beats in the main body of the track before surfacing back to back along the vibrant melody. This Denver based, Chicago influenced Nap Girl producer whom is responsible for a community of music producers on Discord channel continues thinking outside the box with the styles and work that she puts out. White Mystery is quite the talented duo from Chicago. The siblings Alex and Francis White Recently released a stop motion music video for their track Played My Hand. For those of you not too familiar with stop motion, this method requires a lot of time and patience. The track comes from their recent album Fuck Your Mouth Shut. Marking their 8th studio album the two make it a goal to release one once a year on April 20th – 4/20. This only highlights one aspect of White Mystery.

Celine Neon are a couple of bad-ass chicks running around Chicagos rock underground. Mid Summer they dropped a tune dubbed Keys. The lyrics play on an reversal in gender roles where as these women take over take over the alpha roles and vice versa, noting obvious social inequalities. These artists have a voice to be heard and it is as loud as anyone elses. They will be heard clearly as they prepare a full length project with Keys as their first single.
