Chicago producer Glassic uploads a couple electronic instrumentals this within the month. Sprinkling in some more single pieces after releasing a project early in the year. The Motions EP released early in the year contains 5 tracks and a feature with Brittany Carter. Also featured in Glassic’s 2016 self tited collab EP along with Will Is Chillin, another local artist amongst others.
After the Motions EP glassic let those beats simmer for a few months before uploading some single pieces. Perhaps gearing up for an upcoming project Safe Travels under no specific release date. Most recently Looking Everywhere is a simple chill beat with a vocal loop leaving you in cloud 9. New Lands will make you do a double take leaving you a taste for Waking Up from the 2017 EP. Whether its a big project or a single release it is quality work.
Claiming to have the “Hardest Music in Chicago”, we would like to see anyone step up to the plate. You cannot go harder than Hardstyle, and RAAKMO is credited with some the best to come out of the city. Invited to some of the most wild parties such as Porn and Chicken Monday Night Dance Party, why? Just take a listen to his recent series of remixes.
Now RAAKMO typically leans towards Hardstyle but what makes any good artist is to blend style and make your own. His Rich Chigga remix has a trap bass foundation to it but you can clearly hear his hardstyle influence. Just as well with his Turn Day Turn Night remix with VOVIII. RAAKMO has an interesting Hardstyle infused trap formula and it works well with his collaborators. With Keku however they two stuck to hardstyle with they remix of Chupacabra by Carnage.
Porn and Chicken Dance Party continues to gain popularity in Chicago. Remaining the #1 weekly Monday night dance party in the city with continuously changing costume themes, headliner DJ’s, special guest hosts and all the crazy antics of the PnC crew. MTV host Eric Andre and Adult SwimsTim and Eric had the pleasure of experiencing Porn and Chicken as well as popular artists like LOUDPVCK, BARE, 12th planet, Yookie, 2Faced and more.
Over the last months PnC has made some big moves. One being a change in venue from the long standing evilOlive in Wicker Park to their new home at theMID in Chicago’s Fulton Market District. To celebrate the move the trio release a couple singles for the fans to rage to. Each release improving in quality the trio certainly outdo themselves everytime.
Also within the last month the group uploaded 2 tracks to the cloud. Following two original releases after All Hell Breaks Loose, 2017 is on a progressive year for them. Most recently a couple more collaborations under their belt. KTRL puts in some work makin’ Bread and straight following that they drop Zipper with Stellar. Both of which frequent the decks at the dance party, you better believe these tracks been tried and tested successfully in turnin up the dance floor.
Coming from Illinois Graham Gawthorpe aka GAWTBASS grew up involved in music from the start. Becoming proficient in percussive instruments, guitar and the cello by 18 yrs of age before hitting that expert level and decided to teach guitar. Gawthorpe has also been apart of bands before deciding to take things a different direction. Once he got hold of electronic music he took off.
In just 3 years of producing he has hundreds of thousands of plays on his soundcloud and major record labels in his pocket. Getting much popularity remixing popular artists alongside his heavy trap singles. Early July saw the release of his debut EP To The Top. The 3 track project packs a punch but it seems like light work for this producer. The bass will rock your head off and this guy is offering what he knows. I would say take advantage of this EP and his tutoring!
Nelly Furtado, a pop icon in mid 2000’s has many hits rolling off the tongues of reminiscent fans till this day. Put her songs on a throwback playlist and you will set off any party. As many other artists have, Solstis take a shot at remixing Say It Right and they revive it. Beautifully adding synths smoothly over a bass line without drawing too much away from the original melody.
An uplifting beat following their remix of Cry Wolf by Luna Shadows and a move to Seattle from their hometown Chicago. In the wake of a decision to commit to music the duo are following up with an EP soon to come. A 9to5 can be very distracting. Meanwhile you can sit back relax and dance to this.
You got to listen to the Autobiography as it is. From beginning to end Vic Mensa tells the story about his life up to this point. Blood, Sweat and Tears have been poured into the making of this album; his debut LP, as he explains throughout his interviews prior the release date. From cheating death to experiencing. From heartaches, headaches and addictions to politically charged words he bears all.
Mensa has a prominent history preceding him. Leading up to this point Vic Co-Founded SAVEMONEY in the early twenty teens with successful local Chicago artists, TOWKIO, Kami, Joey Purp, Nico Segal and Chance amongsts others; influencing the direction of Chicago Hip Hop among many talented MC’s Producers and Instrumentalists. Releasing solo projects with visionaries in hip hop production like Cam O’bi,Phoelix and oddCouple. Needless to say his debut album release was a long time coming.
A long time worth waiting though once you see the names collaborating on the album. Fellow Chicago artists Chief Kief and Joey Purp get the invite on Down For Some Ignorance. Other collaborators will include Weezer, Pharrell & Saul Williams, Ty Dolla Sign, Pusha T, Syd tha Kid and the Dream. Even Carl from Chicago’s favorite show Shameless brings his talents to the table in a music video for OMG with Pusha T. If that is not enough we even have the Chicago Hip Hop icon in production No I.D.
If that is not enough for putting love back into your city, Vic visits NPR to stream his whole album for his fans to hear before the release. Just getting his story, his human side out there though music. A sobering reminder that an artist like Vic Mensa goes through every day struggles and metal and physically as anyone else. But also at full potential, capable of achieving great success and greatness in whatever it is that makes you happy.
Radcliff is on a spree releasing new tracks. Can spit verses like a machine gun in the studio. Capable of creating multiple songs in a day! Just give him a beat. There is not much you can do to stop this mans hustle. Nothing can set him back, not even genres.
Set Bax produced by Ysness got a real soulful vibe from the UK. Radcliffs hip hop verses dance on that beat perfectly around Ysness vocals. A perfect combination of styles, pushing the boundaries of his capabilities for future projects. Bouncing back to raw Hip Hop Fu$kA9to5 pays homage to the hustle. The inevitable push to do what you love for life and Safi G has more than a thing or two to say about that struggle.
Collaboration has been a recurrent in his work. Releasing some tracks out of Ever Evolved Studio with Rhymster and Young Reyes. Anybody to work with Radcliff can be sure they can be put on to something good. Coming out of Chicago that is a paradigm he is trying to change, working together to create positive motivation.
Phoelix proudly represents Fox Valley, Il as his home. However he will be joining the ranks of other multi-talented artists in Chicago. Known mainly for his production with some popular locals such as Saba and NoName, Phoelix hops behind the mic and shows off skill. Recent tracks made to sound official and unquestionable, it seems this beat smith established his sound and style as he ushers in new music.
Feeling like his hometown is missing some recognition, Fox Valley gets an anthem from its hometown artist and Elton Aura, another Valley native, joins the production. Sirens depicts a life of fearless hustle on their side of the map. A hustle that followed Phoelix into the studio to follow up on a major project. Debuting his first EP, GSPL takes over the spotlight, earning recognition from publications like Red Bull. An EP quite diverse in style and production in such quality is well deserved of the limelight.
The hustle continues to follow as Phoelix makes the move to perform his first headlining showcase which will include Elton Aura and Blake Davis to open. In Wicker Park, locals will be whipped into a frenzy this August with tracks Red Beans & Rice and Bones. They will then be brought back down to earth with tracks like Temptation and Heartless Sonata. Jumping from Rap and Hip Hop to Soul, the EP further expands these genres definitions and limits in Chicago. The air of creativity in the city is certainly fluently flowing.
New Ezy Era releases his Genesis Bars in a series of recent releases coming out of Ever Evolved Studio. Opening up his library to production by RhymSter and Frekwenzy who together just dropped a project of their own. Releasing his second full length project, Lloyd DotDot of theWHOevers continues a flawless discography with the yello EP. From the Intro track to All Day this ep is filled with mellow energetic beats that will leave you faded at the spot. Since his first body of work nearly a decade ago Lloyd creatively puts an effort into creating something new with every song. Packing the project with R&B, Hip Hop and Foot-work beats, each track leaves a taste of Chicago style buzzing in your head. Doing all this without diminishing the quality of his lyricism.
theWHOevers partner Je$$e joins the EP on the track Faded to create a catchy anthem at the center of the project as well as production side on a few tracks. The duo from Chicago maintain a sound that balances contemporary styles with old school influences. Onwardly pushing the boundaries of what traditional Hip Hop from Chicago sounds like amongst other rising artists. Additional contributions on the project come from Slot-Athe BackPackers and Justin Graves. This project comes following the 2016 EP R U Down and multiple singles.
