Nova The King Debuts with Lake Shore Dreams: Artist of the Week

Part Action Bronson, part Mac Miller; A raspy voice and tight rhyme schemes, with classic braggadocio lines, is part of what makes Nova The King a unique, and also new artist, to the scene of Chicago. LAKE SHORE DREAMS, his debut ep, just dropped on all platforms on the anniversary of our nations most fateful day – 9/11. Which is actually just a popular day to do or drop anything given the impact of that date. Lake Shore Dreams is the first stab by Nova The King to cement himself into the music and hip hop industry of Chicago.

Track 1 is DREAMS, which utilizes that signature Nova The King, slow, raspy flow with his in-the-pocket rhyme patterns. Notable lines are, “I remember nights spent up in the basement, cooking up that crack. I don’t know about you, but I believe you have everything I lack.” Track 2 is SLYTHERIN, an obvious Harry Potter reference. Nova The King seems to be influenced by a lot of anime and pop culture that we all grew up with, for example DREAMS has a Dragon Ball Z sample. In SLYTHERIN, Nova The King details snake like behavior, and the often occurrences of swindlers you will run into, pursuing hip hop in Chicago.

Track 3 is WOAH, this track details how Nova The King is focused on success and not becoming distracted by the many women he has come across. Track 4, ALL THAT, where Nova mentions how things used to be, and how he is not reverting back to that lifestyle. He likes doing his own thing and sticking to the music business. In the fifth song, COST ALOT, there is a medieval sounding flute, and the bass line and drums come in perfectly along with his flow. Notable line is his Rick and Morty Scary Terry reference, “I know you sweet like Ben & Jerry, I be in your dreams like Scary Terry.

The final track on the EP is produced by Yondo, who is a favorite YouTube producer among the rap game. “Believe the paranoia, you know that I’ll destroy, I’ll Oscar Delahoya, you better phone your lawyer.” Is the hook which is the best on the project and makes you vibe and head rock. Props to Nova The King for entering the Chicago hip hop scene and releasing his first EP, LAKE SHORE DREAMS!
