Try Again, MOECYRUS Already Coined That: Artist Of The Week

Chicago legend in the making, MOECYRUS, recently dropped his 5th full length studio album, I ALREADY COINED THAT. A record full of punch lines for all the haters and fans alike, to absorb with grit and a complex array of emotions. MOECYRUS says what he feels and does not hold back his perspective when explaining what he goes through, navigating in this music business. When it comes to lyrical structure, MOECYRUS channels the classic greats of hip hop; think Big Pun, Ghostface, Biggie type of rhyme organization.

Being from Chicago born and raised, MOECYRUS hones his unique style and puts on for his city. The intro track to the record is titled CHICAGO THE MECCA, where MOECYRUS sings and raps about how Chicago is the epicenter of culture. “Old heads think they’re too good to teach the youngings, because they’re stubborn, then wonder why we ain’t MOVING!” MOECYRUS creates a mellow but lyrically impressive intro track to his 5th LP.

The next notable track to highlight is, “PUT IT UP”, with a catchy hook that every emcee listening will be beating themselves for not thinking of it, because it is that clever and sonically pleasing. When things open back up, rest assured that anyone in the crowd hearing this will be rapping and chanting along! MOECYRUS put together 8 songs with 4 features to complete his 5th album. Talents that offered their sound are Orlando Coolridge, Novatore, Cruz Ocho, and Billie Dee Boodah. As usual, MOECYRUS recruits an all star lineup for I ALREADY COINED THAT.

On God is another well crafted and highly impactful song on the record, with over 4 minutes of MOECYRUS rapping about the in’s and out’s of coat tail hangers and clout chasers in the music business. A pattern of people thinking they need and want things from him, without offering any value in return; for lack of a better word: leeches. “Don’t put that on me, thats on god,” he chants, and after listening through, he is definitely right. This song is also impressive for including a little Midwest chopping, Twista style, at the end of the hook; “burning your bridges and thinking its sweet, I’m up in the top, I came from the ground!”

I ALREADY COINED THAT, the title track, is number seven on the LP, and it starts out with a falsetto, raspy sung tune before the drums, and MOECYRUS’ signature flow comes in. It reminds one of something playing in a diner when getting the morning coffee. The tune goes, “I wanna talk my shit sometimes, I wanna get outside my mind, everybody’s got their eyes on me!” MOECYRUS gives two verses on this record surrounding the theme of too many people trying to get something out of him, or trying to pick his brain for all the secrets.

Being a rapper in this business can come with a lot of people wanting things from you, simply because of your platform and name, something that he avoids at all costs. MOECYRUS values genuine interaction, he swerves the energy vampires. I ALREADY COINED THAT is an amazingly cohesive and authentic record coming from the Chicago emcee. Any fan of hip hop, or anyone considering themselves a hip hop head, needs to go support this artist and buy his LP on BandCamp. And make sure to stream each of his 4 previous records, UNTITLED, ICEBERG, YOU GOTTA BE FKN KIDDING ME, and LIFE EXPOSED.
